Rangers F.C.: A Club with a Rich History

Rangers Football Club, also known as The Gers, was founded in 1872. They play their home games at Ibrox Stadium and are based in the city of Glasgow in Scotland. They have been playing in the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) since its formation in 2013, and have competed in the Scottish Cup since the Scottish Cup’s inception back in 1873.

Early years

Rangers Football Club was founded in 1872 in Glasgow and is one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. With a rich history, Rangers are famous for becoming one of only three clubs to have won every major trophy in world football, an achievement they’ve accomplished no fewer than 51 times over their 130-year existence; not bad at all! They have also won more top division titles than any other team in Scotland (54) and were one of two British teams to win Europe’s most prestigious club competition: The European Cup Winners’ Cup, back in 1972/73. Rangers has long been regarded as one of Britain’s big five clubs alongside Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Rangers play home games at Ibrox Stadium which has a capacity of 50,947 people. Rangers currently play in Scottish Premiership after winning promotion from Scottish Championship via play-offs last season. Manager Mark Warburton has brought stability to Rangers since he took charge last summer by guiding them to promotion from Scottish Championship into Scottish Premiership and then signing some quality players during transfer window like Joey Barton who became highest paid player in Rangers history when he joined from Burnley on free transfer on July 1st 2016 .

The 1950s

Rangers Football Club is one of Scotland’s most storied football clubs. Rangers won its first Scottish League Championship in 1954, and after winning it again in 1957, The Gers haven’t slowed down ever since. In fact, The Light Blues have an incredible nine League Championships to their name as well as two wins at Europe’s premier club competition: The UEFA Champions League (1972 and 1998). Considered one of Scotland’s Old Firm teams along with Celtic, Rangers Football Club also boasts a rich history of success on domestic soil—they're seven-time winners of The Scottish Cup as well as six-time winners of The Scottish League Cup. Recent history

Perhaps one of Scotland’s most historically relevant clubs, Rangers Football Club (or simply Rangers) has an illustrious history that spans more than 100 years. In their first season, 1899-1900, they managed to secure a league championship title under manager William Wilton; that was just in time for their inauguration into Scottish football. As part of its inception into the Scottish Football League, Rangers went on to secure four more titles before creating what is now known as The Old Firm rivalry with Celtic (another famous club in Scotland). After losing to rival Celtic during one game in 1907—the worst defeat in club history—the team bounced back and won seven consecutive championships from 1910-1916. Rangers continued to play well throughout much of World War I, but then hit some hard times after it ended. They were relegated in 1921 but came back strong by winning three straight championships between 1923-1925. During World War II, Rangers played a few games at Aberdeen’s Pittodrie Stadium because their stadium had been damaged by German bombs. The club also did not compete between 1939 and 1945 due to WWII until returning in 1946 where they won two league titles over the next two seasons. Throughout much of Rangers' early history, they competed against Hearts for dominance over Edinburgh while also taking on Dundee United when it came to Glasgow's teams.
